Googletopia in Mountain View?
Tech Crunch recently reported that our very own Google HQ in Mountain View wants to change its nearby zoning to create a Googletopia, a campus that extends its work –live atmosphere and solidifies Mountain View as a premium destination and leader in both technology and sustainability……
Here’s an excerpt from the copy of the letter to the City of Mountain View
(Recently posted on Tech Crunch):
“We are writing you to express our preferences for the future of Google s continued growth in the City of Mountain View We would encourage you to provide opportunities for the North Bayshore area to continue to be the center of sustainable development for Google’s HQ campus
Our goals for Google s HQ are to provide a future redevelopment that is nurturing and regenerative to the environment provide a vibrant community and worklife balance for all and efficiently manage transportation and pedestrian access needs. This must include mixed uses office retail and residential along with the kind of land use development described in the Final Report by the Mountain View Environmental Sustainability Task Force. We encourage you to be the model Silicon Valley community leading the way with visionary development opportunities to create the most efficient sustainable and fiscally supportive plan to the community of Mountain View and the North Bayshore area.”
Having Google in Mountain View has been very good for those living in our city. Besides the employment opportunities, Google supplied free Wi-Fi throughout Mountain View back in 2006, making Mountain View the first city in the nation with free Wi-Fi citywide access. Savvy Cellar: Coming to a Train Depot Near You

Back in July of 2009, the City Council of Mountain View chose Savvy Cellar Wines, Inc. to lease the replica 1888 Train Depot in downtown Mountain View. Savvy Cellar plans to operate a wine bar out of the building similar to a business it runs in Redwood City.
According to a July 9th article in the Mountain View Voice, Savvy Cellar plans to serve wine and “light foods” and to sell wine by the bottle. The company may also use the space to teach its highly regarded classes on wine.*
We are pleased to announce that they have started the interior remodel to transform the once-vacant train station into a wonderful wine experience for residents of Mountain View to enjoy. A Flickr Slideshow of the Savvy Cellar interior build-out can be viewed by clicking on the image above or following this link.
For more information regarding this exciting project, become a fan of Savvy Cellar Wines on Facebook and follow along. We’ve also made Savvy Cellar a Favorite local business on the Gables End Facebook page. The Gables End Facebook Fan page Favorites is like a concierge of local Mountain View services all in one spot!

Red Rock – The Fusion of Caffeine, Culture & Community
We’re all in search of that perfect spot. Something that feels like home, our home away from home. A venue for cultural exchange, conversation and relaxation. Well, we are all very lucky to have such a place right here in Mountain View.
Red Rock is all that and much, much more.
Built on it’s three core values: CAFFEINE, CULTURE and COMMUNITY, Red Rock is an oasis where you can escape to unwind, relax and “recharge your battery”.
Red Rock was born when a group of people came together and wanted to create a place of genuine community. Not just a great place to meet and hang out, but a place that truly gave back and supported the community that supports it.
Standing venues include Open Mic and Kid’s Story Hour. Open Mic happens every Monday from 7-10pm. Everyone gets 10 minutes, enough time for 2 songs, or 3-4 poems, or a stand-up routine. All forms of creative expression are welcome; anything you think would be fun for everybody. Kid’s Story Hour happens the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of every month at 10:00AM. Bring your children for an hour of songs and picture books, supplied by BookBuyers.
The music is great, the coffee is hot and the staff is friendly. It doesn’t get much better than that. For a complete listing of events and more information, check out the Red Rock website.
I Love Mountain View Blog
Gables End is located in the center of Silicon Valley in the City of Mountain View. This high-efficiency metropolis is extraordinarily civic-minded providing its citizens with a wealth of engaging amenities and progressive services (MV was one of the 1st to offer free Wi-Fi to its citizens). That is why when we recently stumbled across this gem of a blog posting about local Mountain View amenities, we knew we just had to share. If you haven’t visited the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce site blog written by Heidi Chen – ilovemv.org then you need to have a look. What a great resource for all things Mountain View!
“I Love Mountain View” covers a variety of topics regarding life in our exciting community. It’s rare to find a site that addresses multiple age groups and a variety of topics.
Heidi includes something for every member of the family:

The blog is relatively new (less than a year old) and already has some excellent resources. We look forward to future posts focusing on living the good life in Mountain View. Thanks Heidi!
