Celebrate Independence Day in style! The first-ever “4th of July Victorian Fashion Promenade,” is on the calendar for Sunday, July 4, 2010 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

There will be costumed guests, picnic baskets and entertainment at the Rengstorff House, Mountain View’s oldest house, and one of the finest examples of Victorian Italianate architecture on the West Coast. Enjoy live jazz from Benny Torres of the Silicon Valley Repertory Jazz Orchestra! Come prepared for the evening and grab a spot at Shoreline Ampitheatre or grassy spot along the bay to watch the fireworks overhead set to the music of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra’s “Hits through the Decades”.

According to the City of Mountain View – “The holiday event will include activities such as costumed guests in procession, historic house tours, storytelling for kids, a marionettes “vaudeville follies” show on the front lawn of the Rengstorff House, “All American” jazz in the gardens, a special picnic lunch menu and water-based activities at the Shoreline Lake Aquatic Center and Café, and thematic breakfast offerings and an Independence Day BBQ at Michaels at Shoreline in the afternoon-into-evening hours.

A “Victorian Fashion: Head to Toe” cultural arts display is also currently on view at 3070 N. Shoreline Boulevard, Mountain View during Rengstorff House public tour hours (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) through July 28, 2010.  The exhibition includes black and white fashion advertisements, color fashion plates and an array of costumes on loan from the Friends of ‘R’ House, TheatreWorks and West Bay Opera.”
